Frequently Asked Questions(FAQ)

What is unique about your course from others?
  1. We aim to be your friendly hands-on guide, to provide pragmatic advice on your various unique musical endeavours without emphasis on exams or academic rigor. We want to offer a sound-and-safe place for your own , specific musical growth.
  2. We specifically utilise the harmonium (or the keyboard, otherwise) for you to gain a better handle on your singing
For whom is this suitable ?

This course is most suitable for adults and teenagers who have a genuine interest in Indian vocal music or harmonium and want structured, step-by-step guidance. It is ideal for beginners starting from scratch, as well as learners seeking stronger fundamentals, better pitch control, raga understanding, and the confidence to sing or play with clarity and expression.

Would I be required to purchase a harmonium for this course?

A harmonium is optional. However, having a simple keyboard with Strings/Accordion sound functions would be a good alternative.

Will I be taught on how to play the harmonium?

Yes, you will be taught the notes on the harmonium, but this is for the primary purpose of note identification of the music sequences or songs that you will be learning.

The course will not be focusing on the specific sequence of note playing with the correct fingers etc. Instead, the student will gradually and comfortably adapt to their own specific style of playing the notes (and/or chords) for the specific songs or raga sequences.

Is there a minimum age to join the classes?

Typically, anyone from the age of 11 can join in the classes.

For younger participants admission would be on a case-by-case basis with evaluation from the trial class and/or the initial class sessions where the student’s aptitude would be assessed.

What goals can students expect to achieve at the end of the Beginners Course?
  1. Sing in pitch with proper breath control and basic shruti alignment
  2. Render simple note sequences and one complete song confidently
  3. Maintain steady talam in beginner-level compositions
  4. Identify harmonium notes and apply correct fingering
  5. Play simple melodies with coordination
  6. Build listening accuracy, rhythm sense, and disciplined practice habits
  7. Develop confidence to progress to the next level
